Skin packaging tightly seals a transparent film directly onto the product and a rigid backing board. It creates a "second skin" effect, making it ideal for fresh meat, seafood, cheese, ham slices, and premium prepared meals.
How it works:
The product is placed on a bottom board (paperboard or breathable film). Heated film is drawn down by vacuum, conforming perfectly to the product shape and board edges.
Machine types:
Semi-automatic: Operator places products manually; machine heats, vacuums, seals, and cuts. Suitable for small to medium batches.
Fully automatic: Conveyor belt with mold positioning; output 600–1200 packs per hour.
Key advantages:
Leak-proof: Meat juices stay inside the pack.
Puncture-resistant: Thick film protects against bone edges (e.g., ribs, lamb chops).
Extended shelf life: With gas flush, refrigerated shelf life reaches 7–14 days.
A semi-automatic skin packager costs $5,000–$12,000 – an excellent upgrade for butcher shops or central kitchen deli lines.
